This year, the Pascal, Cayley, and Fermat Contests will be held on Wed, Feb 28th, 2024 in the cafeteria during period 1!!
The Pascal, Cayley, and Fermat contests are hosted by the University of Waterloo for students in grades 9 to 11. The Pascal contest is tailored for students in grades 9 and under, the Cayley contest is open to those in grades 10 and under, and the Fermat contest caters to students in grades 11 and under. You are welcome to write contests at higher levels but NOT lower levels.
There will also be a $5 registration fee to be paid on SchoolCashOnline.

Canadian Chemistry Olympiad Registration

The Canadian Chemistry Olympiad is now open for registration. Winners will be invited to a national training camp and have the chance to compete internationally in Saudi Arabia, 2024 as a part of the Canadian IChO Team! (A Mackenzie student won silver internationally just a couple of years ago)
As well, the Canadian Chemistry Contest is held alongside CCO. This is a separate contest, written in the same time period as CCO April 23rd, 2024!
PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING CAREFULLY:
You must register now independently for the monthly problem sets and associated workshops for the Canadian Chemistry Olympiad ONLY. Once registered you must complete and submit the problem sets by the end of each month. October and November problem sets have already been out and are due November 30th.

MRC has taken a huge step up and now is providing this a-MAZE-ing event! Do you love a good maze? Are you looking to learn more about programming robots? Then join us, on Monday, November 13th OR the 20th for the Pathfinding Puzzles competitive event!
In this event, you will learn the basics of controlling a robot using Arduino, and put your pathfinding skills to the test by navigating your robot out of a challenging maze as quickly as possible! Don't worry, no coding experience is required! THIS IS A COMPETITIVE EVENT, PRIZES WILL BE GIVEN TO THE WINNERS!
This event will be running twice on the dates given, your team will only show up on one of the date!

First Lyon Computing Competition (LCC) of the Year!


Are you looking to troubleshoot some haunting issues 👻 ?
You’re in luck because MCPT’s first Lyon Computing Competition (LCC) of the year is up and running on Wednesday, October 25 from 5:00 - 7:30 PM (online).
In order to participate you must register at https://mcpt.ca/lcc/signup by Monday, October 23rd at 11:59 PM with your team of 3-4 students (1 or 2 members are not allowed).
And if you’re looking for a trick or treat 🍬 for the holiday festivities, the top ranking teams in the junior and senior division will each get a github-themed sticker! So make sure to spread the word, gather your friends, and get ready to solve some eerie-sistible problems 🎃 !
P.S. You must participate in 3 LCCs to be eligible for the CCC and if you’re in an LCC team, only 1-2 members must fulfill the lessons requirement.

The past two days, DECA Mackenzie sweeped Provincials at the Sheraton Centre Hotel in downtown Toronto in-person for the first in three years. Stronger than ever, members won more than 40 medals among competitors from across Ontario.
A huge congratulations to Misheel and Kailey for qualifying for internationals in Orlando, Florida as provincial champions! Shoutouts to our top 10 overall winners Kevin, Riddhi, Diana, Gene, Pouya, Jeffery, Brian, Patrick, and Edna as well!
A special thanks to our presidents Nicole, Celine, Jeffery, Misheel and Olga and our trainers Kailey, Gene, Derek, Zachary, Andrew, Patrick, Ilana, Elle, Harriet, and Philip for their incredible dedication this year.

North American Computional Linguistics Olympiad Sign-Ups

The Open Round of NACLO 2023 will be held on Thursday, January 26th, 2023 from 10am to 1pm at the University of Toronto, and all students will travel to the site as individuals.
As this time will conflict with one of the mornings of first semester exams, Linguistics Club plans to make arrangements with the school to make sure all students writing the competition will not miss their exam. MCPT presents: The Competitive Diagnostic Contest!
As the first event of the 2022-2023 school year, MCPT is excited to announce our competitive diagnostic contest. Participation is open to all skill levels, but beginners are especially encouraged! It's mainly about evaluating your familiarity with competitive programming topics for future lessons and contests, so don't worry if you can’t solve some problems yet.
The contest duration will be from Sept 23 @ 3:15 pm to Sept 25 @ 11:59 pm, with a two-hour window to participate individually. There will be 6 problems of increasing difficulty — with the same scoring format as an LCC.

Start marking your calendars because LyonHacks II will be returning this year as Mackenzie’s 2nd hackathon!
LyonHacks II will start on April 15th @ noon and will end on April 17th @ noon — for a total of 48 hours.
Now you may be wondering, what is a hackathon?
A hackathon is a programming competition that challenges teams to design and pitch a software application to our panel of judges. During LyonHacks II, teams will create a code-based project that falls under one of the given themes. The hackathon will also feature workshops, fun activities and guest speakers to help people of all skill levels. Don’t worry if the competition aspect may feel intimidating, as hackathons are seen as a place to learn, collaborate and express creativity!
All Ontario middle and high school students ages 13-18 are invited to compete, in teams of up to 4. Top teams will receive prizes from a cash pool of $250, generously sponsored by ECOO.

Want to take part in the largest high school CTF contest in the world? Tackle PicoCTF's 70+ problems with a team! CTF stands for Capture the Flag, and they're are all about hacking a file, app, or website to find a line of text, the "flag." If you have no idea what that is, don't worry; no prior experience is required!
Interested? Sign up by March 6 at 11:59PM using the form in teams of up to 5 people. The contest lasts from March 15-29, and participation is completely free. The top Canadian teams are eligible for prizes of up to $2000. In addition, the top Canadian all-girls team can also win $2000.

The PCF Contests are a great way to inspire all students with an interest in mathematics and to build their confidence and ability.
This year, students will be able to write the PCF Contests online or on paper, an option that we introduced last year. Closer to the contest date we will be able to take a decision regarding the mode of writing (online or in-person).

Introducing Mackenzie’s first-ever Holiday Game Jam!
A game jam is a competitive and social event where teams of up to 4 students create video games and then pitch their new game ideas to the rest of the group. It’s a great opportunity to make new friends, create something cool, and learn a thing or two! No previous game dev experience is required - we’ll be running many workshops over the event to expand your knowledge of game dev. We’ll also be hosting fun activities for you and your friends to participate in and enjoy over the span of the event!

Canadian Computing Competition (CCC) Pre-Registrations Open!


MCPT is excited to announce pre-registrations for the CCC! :poggers:
Hosted this year on February 16th, 2022 by the University of Waterloo, the Canadian Computing Competition (CCC) is the premiere individual coding contest in Canada. It follows a similar format to the LCC hosting a Junior and Senior division with five problems held in a 3 hour contest time.
The Junior division is aimed towards Grade 9 and 10 students just starting out in competitive programming, where the Senior division incorporates more advanced algorithms and may be better suited for Grade 11 and 12 students. We still encourage everyone to try out the Senior division, especially if you’re in Grade 11 or 12, as it’s a good opportunity to test your skills and boost your University of Waterloo application!

Held by the CEMC on February 23rd, the PCF is an hour-long multiple choice contest. Be sure to sign up using this link before January 31st, 2022.

At least 1-2 members of each LCC team must attend Competitive lessons in order to continue being eligible for the LCC. If you wish to secure your spot as an individual to register for the CCC, you are highly encouraged to attend.

The Lyon's Computing Competition (LCC) is Back!


Teams of four. Two and a half hours. One premiere coding contest.
You and your teammates are invited to sign up for our first Lyon's Computing Competition of 2021!
The Lyon's Computing Competition (LCC) is a team programming contest held by MCPT every month. Teams consist of 2, 3, or 4 members. Whether you're just starting to program or have practiced competitive programming for years, there's a fun challenge for everyone! If you’re a bit younger or newer to programming, our Junior Division will be perfect for you! For those who are older or seek a greater challenge, the Senior Division is a great choice!
LCC is a great opportunity to work with friends to solve challenging coding problems and gain insight into the competitive programming world. Our inaugural competition will have five problems and will be hosted virtually on Thursday, October 28th from 4:30pm to 7:00pm.
Anyone looking to participate in the esteemed Canadian Computing Competition in February must also first participate in a minimum of 3 of our monthly LCC’s in order to qualify.
Register your team now at https://mcpt.ca/lcc/signup by Tuesday, October 26th at midnight! Note that to maintain your rating status and points the same team name will be used to sign up for any future LCC events.

The LCC is only available to students of William Lyon Mackenzie C.I. For those from other schools, we offer the MOOSE Contest, which uses the same problem sets but with a windowed time period over a few days. Look out for signups in the near future!

COMC, AMC, CSIMC Math Contest Signups Now Open!

Registration for the COMC are now open! The Canadian Open Mathematics Challenge (COMC) is an open division math contest (meaning all participants will be pooled together, regardless of age) that is open to any student with interest and grasp of high school math. The contest date is Thursday, October 28th, 2021.
Signups close October 10th at 11:59pm!

Likewise, AMC 10/12 A signups are also open! The American Mathematics Competition (AMC) is a multiple choice mathematics competition from the Mathematics Association of America, taking place on Wednesday, November 10th, 2021.
