Hey Mackenzie!
Tuesday, May 31st, the big day for the Ontario Provincial Election Student Vote approaches!
Here's what you can do for your part:
1. Remind your teachers to register for the Student Vote!
2. Stay up to date with news so you remain informed.
3. Be prepared to show up Period 2 on May 31st, fresh and ready to exercise your right to cast a ballot.
Note: A comprehensive video presenting all running party platforms will be showed to participating P2 classes on Monday, May 30.
Attention citizens of Mackenzie! Coming soon is the Student Vote for the upcoming Provincial Election and guess whose opinion will be voiced? Yours!
Student Vote is an opportunity for youth, aka soon-to-be adults, to exercise their right to vote. Voting itself entails understanding where your responsibility is coming from, where it’s going, and why. Thus, to help you, on Thursday, May 12 after school from 4 to 5pm, there will be a virtual all-candidates panel to inform you about the various party platforms. Are you interested in seeing who has your best interests at heart? Come pop in to hear the initiatives and intent of the people for whom your vote can make a difference. Stay tuned for details!
In the meanwhile, you can also submit questions to be asked by the presenting candidates at the panel, as well as your rating on the issues the provincial government is charged with managing: healthcare, education, the environment, and the economy. https://forms.gle/EVhFfPaJZrHfkaVw8
The form will close on Monday at 11:59pm so get your responses in ASAP!
Tomorrow, Wednesday 13th, is the International Day of Pink!
Wear any pink-colored clothing in support of the LGBTQ+ community and stand up to homophobia, transphobia, and bullying.
To learn more, read the official TDSB post here .

In response to the Mackenzie community who want to raise money for humanitarian relief in the Ukraine; 100% of Student Council’s proceeds from selling beef patties tomorrow at food day will be going directly to the Canadian Red Cross. More information on how to help Ukraine will be coming shortly.

“Your english is so good!”

We’ve all experienced small comments aimed our way that intentionally or unintentionally hurt us and make us feel uncomfortable in our skin. These are all examples of something called microaggressions. Microaggressions are instances of indirect, subtle, or unintentional discrimination against members of a marginalized group. Despite what the micro- may have you believe, these incidences can have a huge impact on the mental health and well-being of marginalized populations. Attend our Let’s Talk Now Meeting at lunch this Thursday in room 215 to learn more about these impacts and how they can be minimized! Everyone is welcome!
