MRC has taken a huge step up and now is providing this a-MAZE-ing event! Do you love a good maze? Are you looking to learn more about programming robots? Then join us, on Monday, November 13th OR the 20th for the Pathfinding Puzzles competitive event!
In this event, you will learn the basics of controlling a robot using Arduino, and put your pathfinding skills to the test by navigating your robot out of a challenging maze as quickly as possible! Don't worry, no coding experience is required! THIS IS A COMPETITIVE EVENT, PRIZES WILL BE GIVEN TO THE WINNERS!
This event will be running twice on the dates given, your team will only show up on one of the date!

Build up your excitement for HOSA and MEC’s collaborative biomedical engineering event and a Zoom panel meeting with professional engineers in Engineering Week!
Following it up with an out-of-the-world experience in Space Week. Get ready for a demonstration of Einstein’s Theory of General Relativity and two consecutive days of a Digital Star Lab, a large inflatable planetarium.
Peaking at our third week we have Mackenzie’s second-ever Science Bowl! Gather up your friends into teams of four and compete with others in your grade in a science-themed round-robin competition!
Wrapping up the whole month, we’ll have our Serene Science Slow Down Week! Tune in to watch the movie Gravity and compete in a science song Kahoot!
All events will be at lunch unless otherwise specified.

MEC is proud to be welcoming THREE engineers to talk about their experiences on April 4. Everyone in the school is welcome to attend!
They have degrees ranging from a PhD to a Bachelors in Chemical Engineering and work in Pharmaceutical R&D, Manufacturing Process Control, and Environmental Engineering Consulting. Each will be talking about the work they do, a day-in-the-life, and will conduct a Q&A!
Regardless of what field you'd like to pursue, this is a great opportunity to learn about how professionals apply science and engineering in real life and explore several industries!
The event will be after school on April 4 at 3:30pm, either in the cafeteria or several classrooms (TBD). There will be free treats!!

Mackenzie Science and Engineering Olympics is a day-long middle school science olympiad hosted at Mackenzie that brings together over 300 students from 12 schools across the GTA. We will be hosting Dr. Alex Lang, a medical scientist at Janssen who was involved in the development of the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine! The Canadian Chemistry Olympiad is now open for registration. Winners go on to compete internationally in Switzerland in 2023 as a part of the Canadian IChO Team! (A Mackenzie student earned a spot on the Canadian team just a couple of years ago)
You must register now and complete and submit a problem set each month. The Canadian portion of the contest is written alongside the Canadian Chemistry Competition in April. The first problem set has been posted, and is due November 30th.

Hey Mac! Science Council is planning on hosting a Mackenzie Science Bowl which would be a 90 minute online test teaching the three branches of science: biology, physics, and chemistry.
The test is taken on our website during your own time, and consists of 60 multiple choice, 10 short answers, and 3 long answer questions. The online test platform will be open between 11 AM to 11 PM and you must take the test during this time frame. Top students will win amazing prizes!

It's time for the Michael Smith Science Challenge! This competition is available to students taking Grade 10 Science or lower. You can find more information here .
The contest is on Tuesday, February 15, 2022, and can be done online any time between 9:00 am and 11:00 pm (9:00 - 23:00).
