Mackenzie is officially in the new year and out of our winter break! Of course, the change from pyjamas and blankets hasn't taken its full effect yet.
As of now, virtual learning will continue until January 17th.
Of course, staring at a Zoom meeting is not the most exciting pass time.
Clubs have also come to a standstill, pending COVID protocols of the TDSB.
Regardless, the goings on of our school are still here to look forward to, so here's our list for this week:
Some things that happened this week:
- School started on Wednesday, January 5th (duh).
- Visual Arts Council is accepting monthly artwork this new year! The theme is "Renewal", referring to your new year's resolutions. Submit your artwork here.
- In these difficult times, the school continues to offer guidance meetings, which you can book here.
- TED Club hosted a University Student Panel today, on Friday, January 7th from 4:30-6:00 pm.
- Over the winter break, the Flounder, WLMAC's very own (questionable) news source. Find the issue here.
- Mackenzie ESports Club hosted a 4v4v4v4 Minecraft Bedwars tournament on December 27th and 28th.
- MCPT's Holiday Game Jam was held from December 27th to December 31st. Check out the games made by your fellow students here.
Some things to anticipate next week:
-The first credit rescue day is on January 12th, 2022.
- WLMAC Cybersecurity is hosting a beginner Capture-The-Flag competition from January 10 to February 4. Find out more here , and sign up to participate here.
- Business Council's Target Alpha Stock Trading Competition has begun! Good luck to all participants.
Lots of exciting things happened this week. You might notice a lovely theme of holiday spirit that is beginning in our school.

SACmas is back!** For the entirety of next week, SAC is holding a multitude of festive holiday events.
Spirit dress-up days, a whopping 3 food days, candy grams, and a new maclyonsden game!

The Secret Snowflake holiday card event is here! Wellness @ Mac is hosting a schoolwide card exchange for students to spread the holiday cheer.

The ACED holiday competition was held on Tuesday. Congratulations to all participants, you did wonderfully.

Music Council "Sounds of the Season" will hold their live premiere of performances on Youtube! Come watch the premiere on Thursday, December 16th, at 7 pm.
This holiday season, the Creative Writing Club is hosting a holiday escape room! Find out more here.
Creator's Joy is opening another holiday e-card event in a partnership with SickKids Hospital. 1 volunteer hour is given for 2 cards, and students can make a maximum of 6 cards. The holiday e-card drive is happening between December 7th and December 17th. Find out more here.
Today marks the end of Mackenzie's North York Harvest food drive! Congratulation to the winning class, and thank you to all who participated by donating non-perishable food.
Furthermore, grade 12 grad quote submissions are due on December 12th, 2021. All graduates, get your quotes into the yearbook committee form!

- MCPT held their second Game Dev meeting, which taught how to create a tower defence game.
- The Arts Council is opening up their monthly art submissions again! This month, the theme is the winter/holidays. Find more through this link.
- SAC is beginning our winter candy gram sales! come to the front foyer at lunch to pick up a candy gram for a special someone, or just those who you want to send appreciation. Our raffle prize this season is an Apple Watch Series 3!
- Pascal, Cayley, and Fermat contest registration are now open. Sign up here before January 31st, 2022.
- The Music Council opened up the stage for performers who want to submit a performance to their Linktree (in their Instagram bio). The deadline for your submissions is December 8th, and you will be entered into SAC's holiday giveaway upon submission. Happy practicing!
- Mackenzie's Undergraduate Business Panel happened today at 4:00 pm.
Some things that are happening next week:
- MCPT's December LCC will be held on December 9th, 2021.
- The SAC holiday candy gram sale will continue to run until next Wednesday or December 8th.
- Arts Council submissions are open until the end of December.

**Additionally, WLMAC's SAC presents this year's annual holiday food drive. **
Our school is partnering with the North York Food Harvest to donate food to those in need this holiday season.
The non-perishable food items can be brought to boxes in your week 1 morning classrooms.
The class with the most food items donated will recieve a free pizza lunch and the teacher will receive a gift card, courtesy of Ms. Mancini.
The food drive will be happening from November 29th to December 3rd. Make sure to bring your non-perishable food items!
Some things that happened this week:
- Gardening Club ended their lunch sale, which sold a wonderful assortment of potted plants. Hopefully, you were able to stop by the school store.
- Wellness @ Mac began a Wellness Bingo from November 24th to December 1st. Find out more here.
- Mackenzie Esports team has announced the tournament bracket for their Valorant tournament. Find out more here.
- A late start happened on Wednesday. Hopefully, you got some well-deserved rest.
- Congratulations to WLMAC's Cybersecurity team for their scores in CyberPatriot 2021/2022, with all teams placing in the top division.
- Grad sweater and hoodie orders close today on Friday, November 26th.
- The Creative Arts Alliance held their first meeting today from 4:45 pm to 5:30 pm.

- The second part of MCPT's Game Dev workshop is happening on Thursday, December 2nd.
- Volleyball intramurals are held after school next Monday.
- Badminton intramurals are held after school next Thursday.
On November 11th was Remembrance Day, a day we put aside to honour those who fought and died in the first and second World Wars,
along with other Canadian deployments. The Poppy, Canada's symbol for Remembrance day, celebrates its 100th birthday since its creation in 1921.

- The AMC 10/12 contest happened on Wednesday morning. A congratulations to all participants, and be sure to look out for results!
- Mackenzie Athletic Council applications are out for grade 9s. Applications close on November 22nd, and the form can be found here.

- The Canadian Senior and Intermediate Mathematics Contests (CSMC and CIMC) are being held on Wednesday, November 17th. Good luck to those who are participating.
- Wednesday is a late start day, so take an extra hour of sleep!
- Wednesday is Mackenzie's first Food Day this year! Get ready to see clubs selling food outside during lunch!
- Friday is a P/A day. Enjoy a fantastic long weekend!
