Welcome back to the not-so-biweekly athletic highlights! Congratulations to everyone for finishing their exams! Additionally, let's congratulate everyone who went outside recently (specifically Leyang Zou)! Keep up the great work! Nonetheless, let’s see what’s happening in Mackenzie’s sports, shall we?

Volleyball:

With the pools stage over, the girls come to stomp their competition just as they had in their pools!

The Junior team kicked off the double header against Sir John A. Macdonald for their quarterfinal game, and it was just a stomp. I don’t think that many words need to be said for this game, just take a peek at the score at the bottom of this page to see how it went. With such an easy win, the Junior girls team came to win the semi-finals game against Northview SS! The girls came out with a strong fiery blaze with close points in the first few points, but sadly lost steam through the set and were unable to pick themselves up after their first set loss. The girls ended their season with a 0 - 2 loss to NHSS, but they will be coming back next year with some of the girls destined for next year’s senior team!

The Senior girls had a similar experience against Macdonald’s team. Just a stomp, you can see the scores at the bottom. Although, the next game against Lawrence Park CI was definitely a game to watch. The senior girls came out with a VERY slow start, and swiftly lost a first set with a score of 8 - 25. The girls were able to pull themselves together for the second set, but sadly were continually contested at the net for another lost set with a score of 21 - 25. Thankfully, the set was a best of 5 and the girls would have to win the next 3 sets in a row to win the match. Luckily, everyone in the crowd collectively decided that they would look away for the first 2 sets. With one long rally after another, Mackenzie was able to tire out their opponents and really have their skill shine through. The senior girls were able to pull off a reverse sweep with an ending score of 3 sets to 2, in a very convincing fashion (25 - 14, 25 - 19, 15 - 12). Keeping the momentum going, the girls quickly swept the other finalists, York Mills, in 3 sets in the regional finals! Congratulations to the senior girls team for becoming the North Region Champions! Sadly, the girls were not able to continue further in city finals. Nice try Lyons!

Ski/Snowboard:

Posted on wlmac.athletics on the 13th:
On the 7th, the varsity ski & snowboard team competed in their second official race of the season! Again, athletes had to battle against challenging conditions: hail and freezing rain. Overall, we had 2 podium performances, with an OUTSTANDING 2nd place finish by Caitlin Davies in the level 2 W-slalom, and a 3rd place finish by Jacob Stotland in the level 1 M-slalom.

Varsity Boys Hockey

With the Varsity Boys Hockey team approaching playoffs, the team looks to sharpen their skills in their last pool game! Mackenzie squared off against York Mills CI’s hockey team and started off confident while coming from a convincing 7 - 3 win against Sir John A. Macdonald’s team. Sadly, the team was not able to pick up steam as York Mills scored 2 goals without any in return.
